Description

Dmitri Yuranov's PhD project.
Title: "Developing power-aware metrics for routing protocols in ad hoc and mesh networks"

As wireless devices usually rely on portable power sources such as batteries to provide the necessary power,
power management in wireless networks has become a crucial issue.
In general a lot of energy is consumed by active communication in ad hoc networks.
The main aim of this project is to create power management methods for decreasing energy consumption in Wireless Mesh Networks.

Keywords: mesh, wireless networks, routing, power save, green technologies.

Long-term goals

  • Devise energy-aware routing metric;
  • Proof the metric on an analytical model of the ad hoc network;
  • Implement the metric in the existing routing protocol;
  • Test it on an testbed network (ideal case).

Short-term goals

  • Developing analytical model of an ad-hoc network;
  • 802.11s mesh power saving for Linux ("Green Mesh" Project);
  • Make at least two publications.
